Meet the team: Charlotte Graham, Recruitment Consultant

< Back to blog

Welcome to another instalment of our Meet the Team blog series. These Q and As are a great opportunity for you to get to know our consultants and find out a bit more about what they do at Devonshire.

This time, we sat down with Charlotte Graham, who joined the Devonshire team in June 2022 as a Recruitment Consultant.

Tell us a bit about yourself, what do you do at Devonshire?

I previously worked in HR, with a focus on recruitment for the business, which is why I wanted to pursue a career in this area, I’ve always enjoyed recruitment because you get to work on lots of different things, and no two days or roles are ever the same. You get an insight into the life of anything from an Accountant to an Artworker, and I love the buzz of seeing things progress – it certainly keeps me on my toes.

At Devonshire, I very much work closely with hiring managers to define their needs and use this to match the right candidates for the role and business. For me it’s never just about finding the perfect CV…it’s about really seeing if that person will fit the business’ culture as everyone is unique.

I focus on making sure candidates get the most out of using a recruiter, so I offer lots of guidance on tips for enhancing CVs and interview practice and I coach them to be their very best on the day of an interview.

What are the types of roles that you recruit for?

I work on the Business Support desk where I specialise in all roles across this sector, including business development, account manager, administrative and print/graphic roles.

In your opinion, what makes a candidate stand out from the crowd?

For me, it’s a neat and tidy CV that is well-structured, brief, and straight to the point. My pet hate is a CV that is out of date or where gaps are unexplained. It just shows you haven’t checked it before applying for a role.

What advice would you give to people wanting to progress in the career ladder?

When looking for a new role or to progress in your current company, never be afraid to try a new approach or put your own spin on something, it might not always work but you always learn something from trying. If you have an idea, go with it, and don’t hesitate because if you’re excited about it, the chances are others will be too.

How are you finding things at Devonshire?

Amazing – I love every minute of it. You can really let your individual personality show. It’s so refreshing when you can do that in an organisation, and when you can do it whilst being successful it’s even better.

Describe yourself in three words…

Quirky, animated, and nosey!

What do you get up to outside of work?

I like a peaceful life outside of work, whether that’s watching a good tv series or film. If I’m going out, I like to potter around the shops on my own or visit a theme park for the adrenaline.

What’s your favourite food?

Curry – Madras, Rogan Josh, Balti, Korma… most of them. I could honestly eat it every day and I even have one on Christmas day!

If you had a dinner party, what three people (dead or alive) would you invite?

It would be Gene Wilder because he was one of my favourite actors (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has got to be one of my favourite films), Walt Disney and probably someone off Dragon’s Den so I could try and win some business ha-ha!

Finally, what’s your favourite motto/quote?

“Be reyt” – it’s what us Yorkshire folk say for “’it’ll be alright”.
