We would like to introduce you to our new Meet the Team series. In light of these challenging times, our recruitment consultants are here to share their advice to help active candidates during this time. As part of this series, you’ll also find out more about our consultants, the sectors they work in and their individual working from home tips.
As part of our series, we spoke to Ashley Barrett, our Business Support Consultant who joined the Devonshire team just over a year ago.
Tell us a bit about yourself, what do you do at Devonshire?
My name is Ash and I have worked at Devonshire for over a year now. I manage a key account and recruit within the Business Support sector.
Explain a bit more about your desk/sector and the type of roles you recruit for?
I mainly recruit in the Business Support area which includes roles like EA/PA admin assistants and HR. I also manage an account which has varied roles including lawyers, programmers, analysts and bankers.
What type of clients do you recruit for? What are the key skills or traits that are most appreciated?
The clients I recruit for are in the financial services industry. The skills and traits that are most appreciated in this industry are flexibility, someone who can handle high pressure, attention to detail and good verbal and communication skills.
In your opinion, what makes a candidate in your sector stand out from the crowd?
Someone who is articulated and well prepared. They have done their research on the company and the role they are interviewing for. Also, someone who asks relevant questions at an interview.
What advice would you give to people wanting to get into your sector/progress in similar roles that you recruit for?
Keep pushing yourself to achieve the goals you have set as there will be times you will be rejected. Make sure your CV is up to date with all the relevant skills and get feedback from interviews.
What advice would you give to your active candidates looking for temporary and permanent work in the current climate with COVID-19?
Be patient and persistent. Don’t give up.
Finally, what’s your top tip for working from home?
Try and manage distractions and keep to a routine.
